I was born in Cincinnati. I attended Colerain High school and was the Cross Country runner of the year there my Senior year. I graduated in 1995. I ran for the University of Louisville, Ky. in 1996 and made the varsity as a freshman. I then transferred to Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio as it was a better fit for me as a Catholic institution. I competed for the Track and Cross Country teams until my graduation in 2000. I qualified to the NAIA National Championship while at Walsh University. I earned a Bachelors degree in History and Minors in Political Science and Communications from Walsh University. I also have since attended Northern Kentucky University working on a Masters degree.

After graduation I trained for a time with Bob Schul's running group in Dayton and lowered my 5000 meter best time  to 15:13 and found a lot of success at the half marathon distance. Also in 2000, I began coaching at Wyoming High School. I was the head cross country and distance track coach until the 2009 track season. Our teams did very well at the division 2 level qualifying to the state championship in both cross country and in many track distance events. I had the privilege of coaching 7 All State athletes, a State Champion and State Runner up, and an indoor Track All American. I was named the Cincinnati Hills League coach of the year  4 times and also Coach of the year in Division II, III for Cincinnati and the Enquirer several times. In cross country we were District Champions in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006 and District Runner up in 2002 and 2007. Our teams qualified to the Regional Championship or further in every year since 2000.

I am married, and my wife Brandi and I have 5 children. I also own and operate a construction company with my father and brothers. In addition to running I also train and compete in Wrestling and Martial Arts.
