9/4/2010 - What an absolutely AWESOME day in Greenville yesterday! The weather was about as good as it gets for a cross country meet.  A large following of fans of the Big Red Express followed the team to what is arguably the best spectator meet of the year. This is one of the meets where we go all out and grill a nice lunch in the park.  Food was abundant and very tasty.  Special thanks to our chefs Scott Leonhardt, Dan McPhillips, and Tom Bokeno.  I think some others may have helped out on the grills too.  Thanks to everyone who brought the yummy side dishes and desserts.  It was a very nice family day at the park.  This is one of the things for which LaSalle XC is known. 

To top it off, Lancer teams dominated the reserve race and the large school varsity races.  We're still waiting for the official results to be posted online.  In the meantime we can tell you that the JV squad scored 17 points, just 2 points from a perfect score.   The top 5 runners for LaSalle came in 1,2,3,5 and 6. Jake "Chickenhawk" McNamara returned after an injury and took first in the JV race. 

In the varsity race, the Lancers scored 25 points. Second place Moeller trailed with 129 points and the third, fourth and fifth place teams scoring 133, 134 and 135 - WOW! Ethan Bokeno returned to the lineup and helped propel the team to victory.

There were once again many PRs and SBs.  It is common for freshmen to PR the first few weeks as they figure out what their capabilities are.  Practice prepares them, but until they actually run a race, it’s hard to be ready for the pace.  They usually find they are capable of running faster times than they run in the first couple of meets.  Later in the year, it gets more difficult.  It’s also more difficult for older runners to PR, because they know what they can do.  Faster times for them are the direct result of hard work and true physical improvement.  The faster any runner gets, and the closer they get to their maximum potential, improvements come in smaller increments.  With that in mind, some of the records this week are truly amazing.  Each athlete is listed only once in these lists.  A PR trumps a SB

Special Notations:

Ryan McPhillips breaks through 19 and 18 minute PRs at the same time with an improvement of 1:48.68.  That’s on top of an improvement of 36.33 last week, for a total 2 week improvement of 2:25.01.  That’s just insane!

 Kevin Kluesener is under 16:30 for the first time.  Luke Roell is under 18:00 for the first time.  Zach Dangel is just 2.02 seconds of 17:37 PR.  Alex Leonhardt is only 1.08 sec from 19 minutes.  Zac Roether is only 1.7 sec from 20:00.  Ben Yauch’s 2 week improvement of 1:12.31 leaves him only 2.69 sec from 19:00.  Alex Thiery is just 6.69 sec from PR of 16:27.  I’m sure I could find more if I had more time (which I do not right now).

The JV race at the Spartan Inv. is not officially team scored. For comparison purposes only, here are the results from the JV race with unofficial team scores.  The runner data was imported into RaceTab software and scored using that product. This should accurately display the team scoring calculations had all teams been in the same race. There were 817 runners representing 53 teams (WOW!).

The runner data was imported into RaceTab software and scored using that product. This should accurately display the team scoring calculations had all teams been in the same race.  All teams could enter up to 2 teams (7 runners scoring for each) in all races. That really complicates scoring.

10/17/2009 - GCL League Championship
The official results for the GCL League XC championship are posted.  Click here to view them.  These results are provided by Elder High School who manages the meet. Unfortunately, the results are in a non-standard format.  Also, times are only provided for the top 20 runners in the JV, freshman, and open races.  We do not have access to the times for other runners. The non-standard format of the results made it very difficult for MileSplit to add the results to their system. Fortunately, with persistence and a cooperative effort, we have succeeded in importing the data to MileSplit.  This, too, only includes the runners for which times were provided.
